Fritz Jacob Gattmann, III, 84, died Friday, November 23, 2007 at Hospice Savannah.
He was the son of the late Fritz Jacob Gattmann, Jr. and Josephine Ethel Masters Gattmann. His wife of more than 50 years, Vera Grimes Gattmann, preceded him in death.
He was a native Savannahian. He retired from Norfolk Southern Corporation after more than 40 years of service primarily in Atlanta and Savannah. During World War II he served on detached service with the Fourth Army Command.
During his business career he was involved with numerous civic, professional and fraternal organizations. He was a member and Past President of the Exchange Club of Savannah and Past President of Savannah Traffic Club and also a Certified Member of the American Society of Traffic and Transportation. He was a member of Savannah Council #631 Knights of Columbus and Past Faithful Navigator of Fourth Degree Immaculate Conception Assembly. He was a member of the St. Patrick's Day Parade Committee and was involved in the Community Leadership Seminar of Savannah, Inc. He was a former member of the Chamber of Commerce, American Legion and other organizations.
He was a communicant of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church and was honored to serve as a Lector for many years.
He is survived by his brother and sister-in-law, William R. and Sadie B. Gattmann, and his sister, Hilda Gattmann Patton, all of Savannah. He is also survived by a Godchild, Rusty Gattmann and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., Sunday, November 25, 2007, with a Vigil service at 5:30 p.m., at Fox and Weeks Funeral Directors, Hodgson Chapel.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 a.m., Monday, November 26, 2007 at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church.
Burial will be in the Catholic Cemetery.
His nephews will serve as active pallbearers.
In lieu of flowers remembrances may be made to St. Mary's Home, Hospice Savannah, or the Endowment Fund at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church.
